Dear Cherry Creek Theatre Family,
After 10 years of working tirelessly in founding, building, and leading the Cherry Creek Theatre Company, Maxine and I are announcing our retirement from the organization. It was made official at the July 20 board meeting as we passed the gavel to our incoming board chair Matt Meier. And, it’s a bittersweet moment for both of us.
We can’t begin to express our joy and happiness in watching the dream and vision that is the Cherry Creek Theatre grow from just an idea into a thriving arts organization. Looking back over the last decade, it’s hard to imagine that we produced 28 plays and musicals, staged 366 performances, attracted over 30,000 attendees, and built a subscriber base of well over 350 theatre lovers.
In addition, the Cherry Creek Theatre’s work has been recognized by the Colorado Theatre Guild garnering 11 Henry Awards nominations. But your response to our productions has been the most rewarding experience of all. It’s a joy to know that our work has found a loyal audience who bring high expectations of the quality of theatre they want to experience.
We have always believed that theatre creates family, and we are most proud of building a loyal community of patrons who support the arts in the Cherry Creek neighborhood like you. Of the 366 performances, Maxine and I have attended 356! We loved being the hosts for our theatre family — it’s as if you were coming to our living room nightly, and I can’t begin to express the pleasure we found in making so many new friends.
Maxine and I want to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to our board, staff, volunteers, patrons, corporate sponsors, donors, and the entire Denver theatre community in collaborating with us to achieve our vision. We couldn’t have done it without you.
And, we know the legacy of your support will continue through the next decade as Matt Meier, our new board chair, assumes leadership of Cherry Creek Theatre. Matt is a tremendous asset to the organization, and we know he will be a great success. We wish him and the board the very best.
It’s difficult to say goodbye to a community you love so much. But we don’t really look at this transition as “leaving” so much as letting a new team re-imagine our vision and taking it to the next level. We will be there in the audience with all of you.
We’re excited about the future of the Cherry Creek Theatre.
Sincerely,
Mark and Maxine Rossman
