Can you imagine a world without art? Without music? Without theater? Without imagination? Without creativity? Without soul?
Can you?
That was Europe during the Hitler occupation. This is the world painters like Picasso found themselves in and the world they tried to survive in and still make art.
They watched as the Nazis made bonfires and watched as beautiful works of art, plays, books, musical scores were thrown into the flames never to be seen or heard or read. Can you imagine what was lost to us?
What if they had won?
We can never be complacent. Someone will always want to build a bonfire.
